May Martin is a classically trained textile tutor and has had the privilege of being a judge for three seasons on The Great British Sewing Bee.

She qualified as a teacher in 1972 on completion of an intensive course in design, pattern cutting, dressmaking, tailoring, soft furnishing, traditional and modern embroidery.

In a career spanning over 45 years there has been lots of variety and interesting projects and challenges including: running a needlework department in a school, teaching adults soft furnishing, dressmaking and craft, project managing textile refurbishment of complete houses.

She currently divides her time between teaching various residential courses at Denman College in Oxfordshire, providing workshops locally and giving masterclasses to young people in London learning about the fashion industry funded and supported by a charity called FAD

Teaching is a passion and she absolutely loves it. All her students need is their enthusiasm and she will take them step by step through their chosen project.
